QA/Test Automation Engineer
A hands-on quality engineering role. You'll make sure every release across web, mobile, and API is one we trust, building the automated test suites and release checks that let a small team ship often without breaking things, including for AI features.

About the Role
Power Tech Nexus is the product company of the Power Tech group. We build and run our own AI-driven software products for businesses in Australia and the region. We are a small team growing deliberately, so every hire shapes how the product and the engineering practice turn out.
We're a small team that ships often, so every release across web, mobile, and API has to be one we trust. As QA/Test Automation Engineer, you'll build the automated test suites and release checks that make that possible. AI features add a new testing problem, outputs that vary from run to run, and you'll help us design tests that catch real regressions in them.
Key Responsibilities
• Build and maintain automated end-to-end tests for web using Playwright, and for mobile using Flutter integration tests.
• Build API and contract tests for our backend services.
• Run tests in CI as release gates and keep the suites fast and reliable so the team trusts a green build.
• Work with our AI engineers on evaluation sets and regression checks for AI features, so tests catch real regressions without failing on harmless variation in outputs.
• Run exploratory testing before major releases.
• Report defects clearly and track quality trends over time.
Must-Have Skills and Experience
• 7+ years in QA or test automation, building and maintaining automated test suites for software released to real users.
• Hands-on experience writing end-to-end tests for web applications with Playwright.
• Experience automating tests for mobile applications, ideally with Flutter integration tests.
• Experience building API and contract tests for backend services.
• Experience running tests in CI pipelines as release gates and diagnosing and fixing flaky tests.
• Clear written communication, shown in defect reports a developer can act on without follow-up questions.
Desirable Skills
• Experience testing AI or LLM features, including evaluation sets and checks for non-deterministic outputs.
• Working knowledge of TypeScript and Dart.
• Experience with performance, load, or basic security testing.
• A recognised testing certification such as ISTQB.
• Experience in a small team or start-up where QA is a single role, not a department.
Education
A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
What Success Looks Like
• The team ships often, and regressions are caught by your release gates before they reach users.
• Your test suites run fast and reliably, so a failing build means a real problem, not a flaky test.
• AI features have evaluation sets and regression checks that the AI engineers rely on before every release.
• Defect reports and quality trends give the Managing Director a clear, honest view of release quality.
