About Power Tech Consulting

Power Tech is a data, AI, cloud, and transformation consultancy serving mining, financial services, hospitality, and government clients across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Singapore, and India. We're multi-vendor, so we recommend what's right, not what's easy to sell, and we're building our own products alongside client work.

Service through contribution. Trust through transparency. Accountable from end to end. Join us and help shape what Power Tech becomes.

About the Role

Power Tech Nexus is the product company of the Power Tech group. We build and run our own AI-driven software products for businesses in Australia and the region. We are a small team growing deliberately, so every hire shapes how the product and the engineering practice turn out.

As AI & Cloud Architect, you'll be the technical authority for the Nexus product platform. You'll set the architecture across Azure and AWS and across our AI stack, and stay close enough to the code to prove your designs work. You'll lead technical decisions, mentor the engineering team, and make sure the platform scales securely and affordably as the product portfolio grows.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the target architecture for the product platform across Azure and AWS.

• Design the AI architecture, covering the model gateway, retrieval, agents, evaluation, and cost controls.

• Write architecture decision records, and review significant designs and changes before they are built.

• Build proofs of concept and reference implementations to de-risk decisions, so designs are proven in code, not only on paper.

• Set engineering standards for security, identity, networking, and multi-tenancy.

• Make sure the platform scales securely and affordably as the product portfolio grows, keeping cloud and AI costs visible and under control.

• Mentor engineers and lead technical hiring alongside the Managing Director.

Must-Have Skills and Experience

• 10+ years in software engineering or architecture, including recent years designing AI solutions that run in production.

• Architectural depth across both Azure and AWS, including identity, networking, and security.

• Production experience designing LLM-based systems, covering model access and routing, retrieval, agents, evaluation, and cost control.

• Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS platforms that scale securely.

• Current hands-on coding ability, enough to build proofs of concept and reference implementations yourself, in Python, TypeScript, or a comparable language.

• A track record of documenting and leading technical decisions, reviewing designs, and mentoring engineers.

Desirable Skills

• A recognised cloud architecture certification such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert or AWS Solutions Architect Professional.

• Hands-on experience with Azure OpenAI Service or AWS Bedrock, and with agent frameworks and protocols such as LangGraph or MCP.

• Experience with cloud cost management (FinOps) for AI workloads.

• Experience in a product company or start-up growing from one product to a portfolio.

• Experience leading technical hiring.

Education

A bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

What Success Looks Like

• The platform supports a growing product portfolio without major re-architecture and stays secure and affordable as it scales.

• Significant technical decisions are recorded and reviewed, so the team understands not just what was decided but why.

• Shared AI components, such as the model gateway, retrieval, and evaluation, are reused across products, with costs visible and controlled.

• Engineers grow visibly under your mentorship, and the people you help hire strengthen the team.
