About Power Tech Consulting

Power Tech is a data, AI, cloud, and transformation consultancy serving mining, financial services, hospitality, and government clients across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Singapore, and India. We're multi-vendor, so we recommend what's right, not what's easy to sell, and we're building our own products alongside client work.

Service through contribution. Trust through transparency. Accountable from end to end. Join us and help shape what Power Tech becomes.

About the Role

Data engineering sits at the heart of our client work and our own products. As Data Engineer, you'll do core data engineering in Python, build Streamlit apps that put data in front of users, and deliver Microsoft Fabric analytics projects end to end. You'll work across a range of databases, from Snowflake and SQL Server to MongoDB and DynamoDB.

This is not a narrow role. You'll help build our in-house products, contribute to solution design and architecture on client projects, support pre-sales with technical materials and frameworks, and help manage our Azure and AWS infrastructure. We want someone who's happy to wear different hats and join in wherever the team needs them.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data pipelines, transformations, and data models in Python and SQL.

• Develop Streamlit applications that make data and analytics easy for clients and colleagues to use.

• Work with a range of databases, including Snowflake, MongoDB, Microsoft SQL Server, and DynamoDB, choosing the right store for each need.

• Deliver Microsoft Fabric analytics projects end to end, from ingestion and lakehouse design through to semantic models and reporting.

• Support our client projects with data engineering tasks, solution design, and architecture.

• Help build our in-house products, contributing data pipelines, back-end logic, and Streamlit front ends.

• Support pre-sales as a data architect, building solution designs, demos, technical materials, and reusable frameworks.

• Help manage Azure and AWS infrastructure for our data workloads.

• Build data quality checks, tests, and clear documentation into everything you deliver.

• Wear different hats when the team needs it, stepping in across projects and tasks to get the work done.

Must-Have Skills and Experience

• 3+ years in data engineering, with strong Python skills.

• Hands-on experience building Streamlit applications.

• Working experience with Snowflake, MongoDB, Microsoft SQL Server, and DynamoDB, or similar SQL and NoSQL databases.

• End-to-end delivery of at least one Microsoft Fabric analytics project.

• Solid SQL, data modelling, and ETL or ELT pipeline design.

• Working knowledge of Azure and AWS for data workloads.

• A flexible, can-do approach, and clear communication with clients and colleagues.

• Full working rights in Australia.

Desirable Skills

• Microsoft certifications such as DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer) or DP-700 (Fabric Data Engineer), or SnowPro Core.

• Power BI report and data model development.

• Experience with Spark or PySpark, dbt, or Databricks.

• Pre-sales, solution architecture, or consulting experience.

• Experience building AI features into data applications, such as retrieval-augmented generation.

• Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or Bicep.

Education

A bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

What Success Looks Like

• The Microsoft Fabric projects you deliver go live and are actively used by clients.

• Your pipelines and Streamlit apps become reliable parts of our in-house products.

• Your solution designs, materials, and frameworks help us win and scope new work.

• The team counts on you to step in wherever you're needed, and the data you deliver can be trusted.
